Music Teachers Consortium Recitals
The Music Teachers' Consortium was formed in 1987 to provide area music students the opportunity to perform on the Opera House stage. Six Sunday afternoon recitals are again scheduled for the coming season. In addition to piano, string and wind instrument students perform. These recitals have become very special events for the young artists, parents and friends. Consortium members are: Joyce Jacobson, Carol Larson, Norma Norling, Elaine Olsen, Jessica Ortega, Wendy Peterson, Sara Stutzman, Linda Thomas, Norma Tucker, and Sandy Wilson. Performances presented by the Opera House are supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.

ParkBench Society benefit for SHS Renegade Regiment
A concert is being staged by the ParkBench Society to benefit the Sandwich High School "Renegade Regiment." The show will be presented at 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, at the restored Sandwich Opera House, 140 E. Railroad St., Sandwich. The concert will be a musical retrospective of the ParkBench Society's history, with guests and surprises from that history. The ParkBench Society have intertwined with groups such as BADD Ronald, the "Jon Conover Band," and the Regiment itself. Guests from some of these are expected to be part of the show. Michael Colle, Ronnie Clemens and Geno Olson are members of the ParkBench Society that's known for its versatility and variety of music. The organizers of the event said the concert's proceeds will be used to buy uniforms and supplies, also reporting that some of the uniforms being used by the award-winning marching band could be nearly 30 years old. The fundraiser will also feature raffles and auctions of items, with proceeds going for the uniforms. Many local merchants and restaurants are participating in the effort. Tickets are available at the Sandwich Opera House Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on November 7th at 6 p.m. Phone 815-786-2555.

Red Horse & Stone Flys Band
Local Sandwich band Redhorse, together with The Stoneflys from Chicago will be performing at the Sandwich Opera House on Saturday, November 21, at 8 p.m. The show will feature songs from the CD they co-released earlier this year as well as other original music. The upcoming show at the Opera House will be a benefit for The Conservation Foundation (www.the conservationfoundation.org), a local not-for-profit organization which has been very active in land preservation and watershed protection. The Foundation maintains a support base of over 5,000 members and 500 volunteers throughout the region. In recent years they have been very active in Kane and Kendall Counties. Redhorse has been together for over 5 years, performing a wide variety of material including folk, rock, blues, jazz, and many original songs. The band includes songwriter Steve Pescitelli on guitar, mandolin, and vocals; Alan Deaton on harmonica, banjo, vocals and percussion; Audrey Pescatelli on bass and vocals; Bill Fritsch on drums; and vocalish Leigh Kossman. Their sound combines influences from rootsy Americana with flavors of bluegrass, rock, and blues. The Stoneflys are a five-piece progressive-folk-rock band headed by singer-songwriter Frank Veraldi on acoustic guitar. The band also includes Cathy Starr on violin; Jack Burr on bass; Justin Marsch on drums; and Patrick Caputo on lead guitar. Playing at many well known venues throughout Chicago, The Stoneflys have a very unique sound with elements of folk, classical, and jazz, feturing Cathy starr's virtuoso skills on the violin. Tickets for the show are $10 and are available at the Opera House ticket office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and at the door one hour before showtime. General admission - no reserved seating.

The Giving Tree Band & Great Lake Swimmers
Performing at the Sandwich Opera House on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 8:00 p.m.GTB is a group of local folksters that have recently received national and international acclaim for their second album, Great Possessions, which was produced entirely with renewable energy and recycled materials.
